Bangladesh said on Sunday that it had established a wage board to examine pay levels for garment workers, as unrest over wages disrupted the country’s apparel industry.

The government also urged workers to return to their jobs after violent demonstrations prompted the closure of more than 500 factories over the weekend.

Police used tear gas and water cannon against demonstrators during the protests. The wage board will now review workers’ compensation as authorities seek to address the dispute.
