Chocolate CHROME nails combine brown polish, usually gel, with chrome powder to create a reflective, pearlescent finish. The manicure has returned each fall for several years, and Hailey Bieber has worn variations of the look, from lighter latte tones to deeper chocolate shades.

The finish can be adapted to different styles. Los Angeles-based nail artist Vikki Swan says darker browns create a richer, more dramatic effect, while lighter shades look softer. She generally favors neutral or slightly warm brown undertones. Tucson-based nail artist Max Estrada recommends pairing brown bases with gold-leaning chrome, such as champagne, bronze or copper; pearl chrome offers a cooler alternative.

Chocolate chrome can also be combined with other nail designs, including tortoiseshell, gold details, oxblood French tips and crystals. Swan advises keeping the colors coordinated so the different elements complement one another rather than making the manicure look too busy.

The look is commonly done with gel polish because the base needs to be completely dry before chrome powder is applied. Swan recommends applying the powder after curing, while the top coat is still warm, and sealing it with a finishing top coat to help reduce chipping. A smooth, carefully prepared nail surface is important, she says, because chrome can make small imperfections more noticeable.

The style works on any nail length, though Estrada says longer shapes such as coffin, almond and stiletto can make the glossy finish feel especially striking.
