Harriet Sperling has described the Princess of Wales as “open-hearted” and said she would feel comfortable asking her for advice. Sperling, who recently married Peter Phillips, shared the comments in an interview with HELLO! magazine after spending time with Kate, Prince William and their children in the Isles of Scilly.
Sperling said she first met the Wales family there and described being welcomed by senior members of the royal family as “an incredible experience.” Recalling the holiday, she said the children were all jumping into the water together and the atmosphere was casual, while still marked by mutual respect.
Sperling has a daughter, Georgina, from her previous marriage and is now stepmother to Phillips’s daughters, Savannah and Isla, whom he shares with his former wife, Autumn Kelly.
She and Kate also share an interest in early childhood wellbeing. Sperling previously worked as an NHS nurse supporting children and families for 24 years. She is now moving into a role focused on early childhood development, saying she is particularly interested in promoting healthy brain development and supporting parents during children’s early years.
According to HELLO!, Sperling is a patron of Home-Start Cotswolds, a charity that provides support and practical help to families with young children. Kate’s work in this area includes projects through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.
