Pernille Teisbaek has long preferred jeans, low-rise trousers and oversized sweatshirts—easy pieces that feel natural and require little styling. Skirts have existed in her wardrobe, but mostly in a supporting role. Recent runway collections, however, have encouraged her to reconsider their place in her daily rotation.
The shift began with Prada’s spring 2027 show, which centered on the skirt and featured 63 versions of the garment. Matthieu Blazy’s spring 2027 collection for Chanel reinforced the idea. Teisbaek also recalls Miuccia Prada’s view of the skirt as an everyday essential, expressed in a 2006 interview.
For Teisbaek, the key to wearing skirts is to style them as casually as trousers. She is not looking for overly polished silhouettes or delicate styling. Instead, she favors practical details and relaxed proportions, including lower waistlines, stretch poplin, side pockets and belts. Menswear-inspired elements help preserve the nonchalant attitude she associates with jeans.
Her approach relies on contrast. A knit Chanel skirt is paired with a Supreme polo and a touch of red for a sporty effect. An embellished skirt is made more approachable with a simple cashmere knit, loafers and a chain belt that adds a masculine accent.
Leather also becomes an adaptable option. Teisbaek suggests wearing a leather skirt with an oversized T-shirt and sandals in warmer weather, or with a chunky knit and boots in winter. She prefers a fitted shape and pairs hers with a similarly close-fitting leather jacket for an evening look.
For everyday wear, she turns to a stretch-poplin skirt that is comfortable enough for cycling, sitting on the floor and playing with her children. Styled with flat boots and a track jacket, it remains casual, while glossy heels and a small tank top could transform it for a night out.
Teisbaek does not intend to abandon trousers. Instead, the recent collections have made her more willing to give skirts additional space in her wardrobe, particularly when they offer the same practicality and versatility as her favorite pants.
