Maura Higgins reflected on a challenging week on Dancing With the Stars after viewers criticized her performances during Disney Night. In a statement shared alongside behind-the-scenes photos, she said she had been unwell, was low on energy and was learning two dances at once.

Higgins described the week as one of her toughest so far, but said she had given the performances everything she could. She also noted that she had no dance experience before joining the competition and was trying to push herself beyond her comfort zone. “Some weeks will be better than others, and that’s okay. I’m only human,” she wrote.

The comments followed criticism of her performance as Tinker Bell and her part in Team Slaytopia’s group number. Higgins said her post was not intended to seek sympathy or make excuses, but to offer a glimpse of what was happening behind the scenes.

She thanked her professional partner, Mark Ballas, for supporting her, and expressed appreciation for viewers who continue to encourage her. Higgins said their support gives her strength on harder days and that she is grateful to remain in contention for the Mirrorball trophy.
