Mckenna Grace continued her “The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping” press tour with a custom look inspired by the franchise’s most recognizable costumes. At the film’s Berlin premiere on Monday, the 20-year-old actress wore a Cong Tri gown that referenced Katniss Everdeen’s famous “Girl on Fire” appearance.
The dress featured shimmering black fabric with RED and yellow flame details. Its silhouette echoed the gown worn by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss during the tribute parade in 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” when Katniss and Peeta Mellark, played by Josh Hutcherson, ride through the arena’s opening ceremonies. The original costume was designed by Trish Summerville.
The Berlin ensemble is the latest example of Grace’s method-dressing approach for the “Sunrise on the Reaping” promotional tour. She previously referenced “Catching Fire” at the Paris event “Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style and Power of Panem” on Oct. 6, wearing a custom Monique Lhuillier gown modeled closely on Katniss’ wedding dress from the film.
With stylist Molly Dickson, Grace has also worn designs by Mônot, Betsey Johnson and Almée Couture, each drawing on characters, symbols or visual elements connected to the upcoming movie.
“Sunrise on the Reaping” is the latest prequel in the film franchise after “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” Set 24 years before Katniss enters the arena, the story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, as he competes in the 50th Hunger Games. Grace portrays Maysilee Donner, a fellow tribute from District 12. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Nov. 20.
