Oshobor presented its Spring 2027 collection in Lagos, with founder and creative director Peter Oshobor continuing the brand’s reputation for drama. Oshobor described himself as a maximalist, pushing back against the idea that less is more, and said he believes there are many other maximalists in the market. For this season, he wanted to extend the conversation begun by his previous collection, centered on mystery, spiritual awakening and magic.

The show began on what was described as a strange and eerie note. Backstage, Oshobor explained that he wanted to mirror the closing look of his spring 2026 collection, in which a model walked the runway in an all-black wool look covered in black face paint. The Lagos-based designer is known for blurring the lines between fashion and theater, and this collection took exaggerated forms and silhouettes further, including heavily padded skirts and an elephantine coat.

The collection was punctuated by extravagant and ostentatious looks in colors such as bright yellow and purple. Between those dramatic moments, Oshobor also introduced more commercial and wearable pieces, including muted T-shirts and ivory-colored shorts. He said he was trying to showcase the breadth of his creativity and “take up space,” though some moments in the collection felt disorienting and confused. Oshobor acknowledged that he is attempting to take the brand out of its comfort zone in order to offer the market something new and attract attention.
