Profitmind has announced the general availability of Awase, a product-matching model designed to help retailers compare products across competing online catalogs without relying on shared barcodes or product codes. The company said the tool has been in production since April 2026, with retail merchandising teams rejecting fewer than 1 percent of the matches it surfaced.

Awase analyzes product images, descriptions and technical specifications together, enabling retailers to monitor pricing, assortment and marketing activity in categories such as fashion, where identifiers can be inconsistent or absent. Profitmind says the model was trained and tested on more than 200 million products, using 7 million product pairs labeled by retail merchandisers.

In benchmark testing against nine other models, Awase recorded 87.3 percent first-attempt accuracy on live retail assortments without product identifiers. Profitmind said it generated 61 percent fewer first-attempt errors than the leading retail-specific alternative.

The company says the additional visibility can help retail teams spot gaps in their assortments, track promotions and keep internal product data consistent. CEO and co-founder Mark Chrystal said the model compares products at a level of detail similar to an experienced merchant, making competitive analysis possible across more of a retailer’s catalog.
