UNIQLO has developed the Light Down Volume Jacket with snowboarder Ayumu Hirano, adapting a competition model made for the athlete into a design intended for everyday wear. The jacket is scheduled to launch for Fall/Winter 2026 and weighs approximately 400 grams in size L, according to the product details provided.
Hirano, a UNIQLO global brand ambassador since 2018, said he wanted a down jacket that was warm but not bulky or restrictive. His brief also called for a silhouette closer to his everyday clothes than conventional snowboard gear: oversized through the body, with a cropped length.
The jacket’s construction removes down chambers from the back panel and sleeves to reduce weight. UNIQLO says it retains warmth with 750-fill-power down. The design is described as minimal, with limited colors and few pockets, and is intended to be easy to move in, style and carry. Hirano called it a jacket that feels almost like wearing no outerwear.
The Light Down Volume Jacket will come in red, black, olive, purple and navy. Its listed price is $129.90, excluding tax.
Hirano said clothing can affect how he feels on a snowboard: gear that suits him helps him focus, while wearing something that feels wrong can make him reluctant to ride. He also said the project reflects the long-running collaboration with UNIQLO, through which his ideas have increasingly informed the design of performance apparel.
