Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot has officially surpassed $400 million in worldwide ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing entry in the 24-year-old horror franchise. The film has overtaken 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which finished with $312 million globally.

Produced on a reported $75 million budget, the reboot has earned $157.399 million in North America and $242.6 million internationally. Its performance also marks Cregger’s biggest box-office achievement to date, surpassing the $46 million earned by Barbarian and the $270 million generated by Weapons.

Starring Austin Abrams as a medical courier facing infested monsters across Raccoon City, the adaptation opened in September with a franchise-record $60 million domestically and $108 million worldwide. Its international performance included $71.4 million in China, $19.4 million in the United Kingdom and $12.7 million in Mexico.

The film’s success follows 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which earned $42 million worldwide. The new release is based on Capcom’s video game property, which was first adapted for the screen in 2002 with Milla Jovovich.
