The Spring 2027 collections drew on a wide range of books, films, music and art, offering a glimpse into the cultural references behind the designers’ work. The selections include recurring names such as philosopher Michel Foucault, writer Virginia Woolf and photographer Bettina Rheims, as well as Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, a frequent fashion reference.
Music and cinema also shaped individual collections. Fendi’s show used a 1972 Italian song written in gibberish as its soundtrack, while Simone Rocha looked to Merchant Ivory’s 1985 film A Room With a View for the men’s collection she presented at Pitti Uomo. The film is based on E. M. Forster’s novel.
Valentino’s presentation took place in a library, and its sheer tulle pullover was likened to a glossy book cover. Creative director Alessandro Michele had also been considering an idea explored in the book Black Swan.
