Disney Consumer Products and WWD hosted a VIP breakfast on the first morning of the 2026 Apparel and Retail CEO Summit, bringing together executives and representatives from fashion, retail and branding companies including Bloomingdale’s, PVH, Nordstrom, Diane von Furstenberg and Centric Brands.

The conversation, led by Disney Consumer Products senior vice president of fashion and home Liz Shortreed and WWD news director Lisa Lockwood, examined how Disney uses collaborations and storytelling to introduce its characters to new audiences and build connections with consumers.

Shortreed said Disney’s licensing business reaches consumers in more than 180 countries and has generated over $63 billion in global retail sales. She pointed to partnerships with brands including Balenciaga, Levi’s and Gentle Monster, as well as collaborations with Zara and stylist Harry Lambert.

She described fashion as an important part of the Disney experience, alongside the company’s content, theme parks, cruises and products. Shortreed also said partnerships bring together different creative visions, with an emphasis on craftsmanship, storytelling and work that feels distinctive and relevant to consumers.

Lockwood said the discussion focused on building enduring brands through culture and collaboration, noting Disney’s ability to turn its heritage into a globally recognized cultural presence. Artist Jeff Shelly, who has worked at Disney for 30 years, also attended the summit and created custom artwork featuring the company’s characters for guests.
