The Democratic Socialists of America’s Los Angeles chapter held an election-night watch party at the Regent Theater, where members followed results, celebrated political victories and discussed the work ahead. The gathering brought a hopeful mood to a night of campaign coverage, drinks and speeches.
Host Jamie Loftus and other speakers thanked attendees for their canvassing and highlighted six DSA candidates elected to the House, along with other wins. The crowd also watched the unresolved Los Angeles mayoral contest between DSA member Nithya Raman and Karen Bass; at the time of the original report, the race had not been officially called.
Newly elected city attorney Marissa Roy addressed the audience, criticizing local ICE raids and leading a chant calling to sue landlords. The party’s mix of celebration and activism was summed up by one attendee: “We’re libbing out tonight, but we’re organizing tomorrow.”
