Halloween celebrations on both U.S. coasts delivered elaborate celebrity costumes this year. Heidi Klum hosted her annual party at the Moxy Hotel in Manhattan’s East Village, marking its 25th anniversary, while Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse held their first Halloween bash at Fab Factory Studios in North Hollywood.
The two events attracted guests including Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, Snoop Dogg and Kyle MacLachlan. Their red carpets featured detailed costumes, dramatic makeup and ambitious hairstyling, with looks ranging from gothic characters to figures from horror films and classic television.
Palvin and Sprouse both drew inspiration from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Palvin appeared as a modern version of Oogie Boogie based on Mattel’s Monster High Skullector doll. She covered herself in green paint and wore a neon green dress, a matching crimped wig, purple contact lenses and black detailing around her eyes and mouth. The model created and applied the look herself.
Sprouse dressed as Jack Skellington in a pinstripe suit and bat-shaped bow tie. White makeup, pronounced contouring and slicked-back hair completed his skull-inspired appearance, which he also created himself.
Snoop Dogg attended the Los Angeles party as Art the Clown from the “Terrifier” franchise. His costume included a black-and-white clown suit, a mask, white face paint, black detailing around the eyes and an exaggerated smile, along with white fingerless gloves.
Beauty creator Toni Bravo chose an ethereal fantasy look built around pink. Wearing a floral gown and crown, she paired sparkling blush and glitter across her cheekbones and nose with shimmery pink eyeshadow, a defined black waterline and sheer pink gloss.
Klum’s costume was an oversized, distorted replica of her own left hand. The approximately 8-foot-tall design by prosthetic artist Mike Marino included long red acrylic nails, reproductions of Klum’s engagement and wedding rings, a tattoo of Tom Kaulitz’s name and exposed artificial tendons and ligaments. Klum’s face appeared at the center of the structure, which took months to design and about six hours to apply.
Jade Thirlwall attended Klum’s party as a cracked Gothic fallen angel statue. Gray paint covered her body and face to suggest weathered stone, while a gray wig, large feathered wings and moss-like brown and green details completed the costume. Makeup artist Byron London and hairstylist Isaac Davidson worked on the look.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka dressed as the Grady twins from “The Shining.” The couple wore matching powder-blue dresses, brown wigs and pale makeup, accented by bright pink blush and lipstick. White contact lenses and red-rimmed eyes added to the unsettling effect.
Andrew Rannells and Tuc Watkins took a nautical approach, appearing as ghostly sailors in torn clothing, fishing nets and maritime accessories. The pair handled their own makeup, using dark eyeliner and theatrical bruising and disheveled details to reinforce the haunted theme.
