Seoul-based technical streetwear label San San Gear has teamed up with Tokyo alternative brand Jian Ye, led by designer Kan Sugano, on a collection inspired by the Three Mystic Apes: see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. The collaboration adds a fourth monkey, representing “do no evil,” and carries the concept into a range of technical clothing and accessories.
The lineup includes a fur-detailed set-up, a packable jacket, a hoodie, T-shirts, hats and gloves. One jacket can be folded into a monkey-shaped bag. Snap-button fastening also lets wearers form gestures associated with the four monkeys, while some pieces feature four beads as a shared collection detail.
Campaign images show people and monkey-like figures sharing everyday settings without acknowledging one another. The visuals present both at eye level, reflecting the collection’s concept.
The collection is scheduled to go on sale Friday, November 6. In Japan, it will be available through stockists including GR8 and PULP. In South Korea, sales begin at 6 p.m. on San San Gear’s official online store and KREAM. A pop-up will also run in Tokyo’s Jingumae district from November 6 to 8 at Manda Bld. 2F, 1-8-18 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku. It is scheduled to open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
